Bhikkhus, there are these 5 higher fetters. What 5?

1) Lust for form,
2) lust for the formless,
3) conceit,
4) restlessness,
5) ignorance.

- These are the 5 higher fetters.

The 4 bases for spiritual power are to be developed for direct knowledge of these 5 higher fetters, for the full understanding of them, for their utter destruction, for their abandoning.

Here, Bhikkhus, a Bhikkhu develops the basis for spiritual power that possesses concentration due to desire and volitional formations of striving.
