Sutta Nipāta | Theravāda Canon

1. Uraga Sutta, Discourse On The Snake, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Just as the spread of the snakes venom in the body is halted and healed by the medicine, so also the Bhikkhu halts and heals his mind of any anger, In as much as the snake sheds its rotten skin, the Bhikkhu forsakes the Saṁsāric ocean.

2. Dhaniya Sutta, Discourse On The Cowherd, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Dhaniya, the cowherd who tends his own cattle says: My rice has been cooked my milking done. Making my abode near the bank of River Mahī, I have a fairy-sized family, all near and dear to me. Oh! Rain god, pour, pour, if you will!

3. Khaggavisāna Sutta, Discourse on the Lone-farer, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Keep away from company; fare alone like he rhinos horn. He has laid down the rod, for he means no harm to all sentient beings. Having won the enlightenment of Paccekabuddha he does not long for son, not to speak of friend. the Third, Khaggavisāna Sutta

4. Kasibharadwāja Sutta, Discourse on the Cultivation, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Kasibharadwāja saw the Buddha standing with His alms-bowl and knew the purpose. So he said: Hey Bhikkhu, I till my field; I sow it with grain and then I eat what I harvest. Why wont you do like me? Brahmin, so do I. - replied the Buddha.

5. Cunda Sutta, Discourse on the Kinds of Bhikkhus, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Cunda, son of the gold-smith addressed the Buddha thus: O Buddha, the one with extensive wisdom, the lord of the Dhamma, the One devoid of craving, the Supreme One among Humanity and, the celestial worlds, How many kinds of Bhikkhu are there in the world?

6. Parābhava Sutta, Discourse on the Causes of Ruin, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Venerable Gotama, we have come to ask of the Buddha the following question: What are the things that lead to the ruination of man? We have learnt the first cause of mans ruin. May we be enlightened on the second one? And the Buddha replied

7. Vasala Sutta, Discourse on the Scoundrel, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Buddha said, "Brahmin Aggika Bhāradvāja, do you know what is meant by a scoundrel and what makes one a scoundrel?" "Gotama, I dont know what is meant by a scoundrel and what makes one a scoundrel?" I request you to tell what is meant by a scoundrel.

8. Metta Sutta, Discourse on the loving-kindness, of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. One who wishes to attain insight-knowledge of the peace and tranquillity of Nibbāna and who is thus wise in his own welfare should practise the following noble conduct: He should refrain from doing the slightest evil that could possibly invite censure or disapproval by the wise persons.

9. Hemavata Sutta of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. Friend Hemavata, today is the 15th day of the month a Sabbath day. The night sky is aglow with celestial radiance. Let's go and pay homage to Gotama Buddha, Great Teacher of no mean repute. Friend Hemavata, our Teacher, the Buddha is endowed with tranquillity in respect of all sentient beings.

10. Āḷavaka Sutta of Sutta Nipāta, Khuddaka Nikāya, Theravāda Pāḷi Canon of Buddha Sūtras. On one occasion the Buddha was staying in the palace of Āḷavaka the demon. Āḷavaka approached the Buddha and ordered: "Get out, monk!" Āḷavaka said, "I will ask you some questions: Friend Āḷavaka, ask to me the questions you have to ask." Then Āḷavaka put his questions in the following stanzas;
